Work
When choosing my summer jobs, I always strove to fit them within my life goals so that they would be effective learning experiences for me. I chose to work at children's camps to gain experience in management of children and learn rapport building skills. I continued coming back to these jobs year after year, showing my dependability. This, along with my hard work led to greater responsibilities each year. These jobs show I am someone people can trust.
Dawson Music Academy Summer Camp
2010-2016
My freshman year of high school I began working at Dawson Music Academy Summer Camp, a week long day camp for children ages kindergarten to sixth grade. The camp allows children to learn about new instruments or refine their skills in an instrument they already know. At first, I worked only as a counselor. My duties in this capacity included befriending children of various ages, overseeing them, taking them to their various classes, and assisting them and teachers in the classroom. I excelled in this role so thoroughly that I was often commended by staff and teachers, so much so that I was given a role of greater responsibility. Beginning in 2014, I was given administration duties including registration, creating schedules, and overseeing other counselors. In this way, I became involved in planning and overseeing the camp as a whole and was on the top tier of leadership. Because I love children so much, I chose to remain in my counselor role during the week. The experience has given me confidence in my ability to effectively care for children, taught me how to multitask and oversee peers, and refined my skills in working in a team setting.
Created for a Purpose
2011-2017
Beginning in 2011, I began working as a counselor for Created for a Purpose, a week long day camp for girls ages third to eighth grade, which teaches them skills such as sewing, crafting, and cooking. In this job, I befriended the children and guided them in their activities. Here as well I have been commended by many adults for my joyfulness, energy, and maturity. It was because of these qualities in this job that I was asked to lead the third and fourth grade girls' Sunday School class at the church where the camp was held.
